Ghana’s reigning artist of the decade, Michael Owusu Addo popularly known as Sarkodie has divulged the secret to his successful and consistent music career.

Sarkodie reveals his secret to success

The BET award winner has been known to be dropping back to back hits and collaborating with big acts in the music industry beyond Ghana and Africa for the past decade.

The award wining rapper, in his speech at the 2019 International Youth Empowerment Summit (IYES) at the National Theatre, Ghana disclosed what has contributed to his success and consistency and what has motivitaed him through the dark storms of life ever since he stepped into the limelight.

The “Adonai” hitmaker revealed that a mindset of positivity is one of the major things that has helped him triumph in bad times.

He stated at the event that “I had this picture of Sarkodie in my mind even when I was Michael Owusu Addo living with somebody at Mile 7, I knew I would be successful, so when people ask me, Sarkodie, how are you able to have this great appeal even after 10years,I always tell them, I feel like that, I believe that and I know there is something working which is bigger than me”

He further spoke about being aware of the constant pressures and influence the youth face from social media.

“For what we see on social media, on Television, it is hard for us to really concentrate and I get it but if you are positive and sure of yourself, you won’t be moved by that,” he added.

King Sark as he is also called went on to emphasize that having a positive mentality of oneself may be misinterpreted by many as a show of arrogance or pride but that should not stop one from believing in himself or herself regardless of what people think.

Futhermore, Sarkodie added that
there will always be tough times but he is of the view that there’s a way to respond and deal with the storm. He also shared a lesson his mum taught him some years ago and according to him, that remains the only way to go.

“My mum taught me that regardless of the storm there is always a way to move pass that,” he said.

He advised the youth to avoid people who only see and speak negativity and surround themselves with those who are optimistic and see the good in every situation.

“Keep good company and see the good in every situation and try as much as possible to draw closer to God,” he advised.

The 2019 International Youth Empowerment is scheduled from August 21- August 23 with a morning and evening sessions each day.

Sarkodie is set to release his next album titled “Black Love ” in the next few weeks and has already released two singles off the album.
