Former Member of Parliament for Nanton Constituency, Hon Murtala Ibrahim Mohammed has expressed in an interview that, he is a lover of Patois and a fan of popular Ghanaian dancehall artistes, Stonebwoy and Shatta Wale.

Talking to Kwame Oboadie on the After Hours Show, he said;

“I like reggae, but ragga and dancehall are chaffs of reggae. I speak patois very well.”

Probing further, he said a few patois words.

“Mi na get no dreadlocks, mi na take no herb bah rastaness inna mi blood.”

He explained that, he has intense love for the language because he is a Pan-Africanist.

According to Hon Murtala, the patois language came about after slavery when a group of tribes from various African countries wanted to create their own language to destroy the English Language and confuse the colonial masters. That made them corrupt the English language and formed their own language out of it.

He also mentioned that, he has equal love for both Stonebwoy and Shatta Wale, therefore, it will be very difficult if he is asked to make a preference out of the two.

“I love Shatta. I think that he has inspired a lot of young people. And I love Stonebwoy, I think he is too talented, I think his talent is beyond the continent, frankly speaking. That is not to say that you can take the shine away. I think that they are two different brands of musicians even though they all do one genre of music. I think that Shatta is different, persona counts.”

However, he expressed his utmost displeasure against Stonebwoy and Shatt Wale’s behaviors at the just ended Vodafone Ghana Music Awards 2019 (VGMAs) and termed it as needless and childish.
